The small country of Burundi lies between Tanzania and Rwanda. Not surprisingly, the coffee shares similarities with both. It’s been said that the potential for Burundi to produce the absolute best coffee in Africa is achievable. Much like Rwanda and other neighbors, sometimes political unrest gets in the way.
What actually sets Burundi apart from some of its neighbors is its great processing of the bean after harvest. Plenty of clean water and the use of a double fermentation make the beans extremely transparent in flavor.
